Hello families,
I am sorry for the delay in getting a message to you in 2021. It has already been quite the start to the New Year!
All of the children have transitioned beautifully into their new classrooms. They are making new friends every single day. I have been seeing so many fun activities planned by our amazing staff! I love my brief moments of visiting the classrooms and having the children tell me all about what they are learning.
I wanted to take a moment today to write to you about something slightly more somber in tone. At our last staff meeting LCLA staff acknowledged possible unrest that may occur in our city ahead of the inauguration. Since we are located moderately close to the Capitol and downtown areas, we reviewed all our lockdown procedures. In the event of any unrest, we will communicate closely with emergency personnel per our policies and protocols. As always, in the event of any emergency, our first priority is to ensure the physical safety of the children in the building. Once we have ensured all staff and students are safe, we will work quickly to issue parent communication.
We know how scary these moments can be for even us, as adults, to process. We do encourage you to answer questions your children might have in a developmentally appropriate and honest way. We will also do this within the walls of LCLA. Knowledge is power. We want every student to feel safe and empowered.
Here are a few resources to read or listen to that might help support you in answering questions or addressing concerns of your children.
